Summary :
Purpose of the study: Facial dissections are often realized as a surgical procedure or in the aim to see a specific structure. They go straight to their objective through minimal invasive approach, taking no care of the superficial tissues. Meanwhile, they are not adapted to a global visualization of the different facial structures. The purpose of this technical note is to underline the advantage of an open book facial dissection, from the middle to the lateral face. Patient and method: More than 200 dissections have been done with the open book technic. All of them allowed to see the whole areas of botulinum and hyaluronic acid injections and to understand their deepness. They have been realized by our team in the anatomical laboratory of the Medicine Faculty of Nice. Results: All the dissections allow to emphases every muscle and fat compartment. While lifting each facial plan from the middle to the lateral face, this open book dissection respect all the facial structures involved in the medical rejuvenation of the face. Indeed, all the different injections technics can be understood and studied. Conclusion: The open book face dissection developed by our team is systematically reproducible. It may allow esthetic practitioners and surgeons to better understand facial anatomy, facial aging and to optimize their daily practice.
