Summary : Introduction: Cochlear implantation is currently a common practice and remains the most widely used treatment in the management of bilateral sensorineural hearing loss in children. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the social integration of patients implanted in our cochlear implant center in Barcelona 15 years after. Patients and method: We carried out a cross-sectional study (retrospective and prospective). We included implanted patients under the age of 18 years at the time of implantation, with profound bilateral acquired or congenital deafness and who were followed for at least 15 years. We developed a questionnaire and submitted it to patients. To assess auditory performance and language and speech perception we used the Categories of Auditory Perception, Speech Intelligibility Ratio and Meaningful Use of Speech Scale. Results: 220 patients were included in our study. The age at implantation was divided into 4 groups: 0-3 years (39.1%), 4-5 years (21.4%), 6-7 years (11.8%) and 8-17 years (27.7%); 64.7% are full users and 8.2% are non-users; Deafness was congenital in 75.8% of cases. Among patients aged 0-3 years, the mean score for the auditory performance category was 6.2. Conclusion: The age at implantation, the level of oral language and the mode of communication in the environment have an influence on social integration of implanted children. The earlier the cochlear implantation is done, better is the social integration of our patients.
