Summary :
Objectives: The aim of this study is to report the findings on the vocal cords during a videostrobolaryngoscopy in opera singers in the absence of functional complaints. Materials and methods: We conducted a retrospective study of opera singers with no voice complaints and no particular background. A videostrobolaryngoscopy was performed in each patient with a measure of the acoustic and aerodynamic characteristics of their voice. Results: 60 patients were men and 57 were women. In 11 patients, VSL showed an asymmetry of the arytenoids, in 11 patients a posterior erythema of the vocal cords and others abnormalities. Conclusion: We highlight an important frequency of vocal cord abnormalities in apparently healthy vocal singers. The absence of vocal complaints does not exclude the presence of an abnormality of the vocal organ. The consultation of a laryngologist with realization of a VSL should be a routine in a professional singer.
